Valuing the heritage of our European cultural patrimony Denise Ababei aims to create and perform the monodrama Alma Mahler written by Sasho Dimoski within Eastern Theater international artistic residence.
Alma Mahler presents the imagined memories of a talented, passionate woman living in the shadow of a famous husband. The novel deals with Alma’s marriage to the distant and introverted Gustav Mahler, the Austrian late-Romantic composer and conductor, and with many intellectual and emotional sacrifices Alma makes in order to be a support for him. Throughout, Alma wrestles with the tension between her desire to be near genius and her growing awareness that all she ever receives in return for her sacrifice are the great man’s silence and the pains of solitude.
Dimoski’ Alma Mahler novel inspired Denise Ababei artistically to stage it and she hopes that her performance will delight the audiences from Lublin and everywhere.
With an impressive theoretical background, but also with a rich practical experience on the stage, the professional actress from Romania invites you to enjoy her theatre performance together.

W ramach międzynarodowej rezydencji artystycznej, doceniając wspólne Europejskie dziedzictwo kulturalne Denise Ababei zaprezentuje na deskach Teatru Wschodniego monodram Alma Mahler, którego autorem jest Sasho Dimoski. Spektakl jest realizowany w języku angielskim.
Alma Mahler opowiada historię życia utalentowanej i wrażliwej tytułowej bohaterki, borykającej się z życiem w cieniu sławnego męża. Jej małżeństwo ze zdystansowanym, introwertycznym, austriackim kompozytorem i dyrygentem epoki późnego romantyzmu, Gustavem Mahlerem wymaga od niej wielkiego poświęcenia, by wspierać jego karierę. Alma zmaga się z niedającymi się pogodzić pragnieniem przebywania w bliskości geniusza, a rosnącą świadomością, iż jedyne co otrzyma za swoje poświęcenie, to milczenie wielkiej osobistości i ból samotności.
Powieść „Alma Mahler” Dimoskiego poruszyła Denise Ababei do głębi już przy pierwszym czytaniu i skłoniła do przedstawienia jej w formie monodramu.
