’I come to Lublin walking and I leave walking. I started near Konin, at a meditation center, then i headed to Włodawa where my family roots are, and now I continue the long path to Greece, where I live. Lublin is the 600km point on a 3,300km walk. This walk is a culmination of a decade or more of personal movement practice.
Through undirected movement and duration, I witnessed my body transform and tension leave my tissue, in ways that were totally different than the imposed transformation I asked of it through technical dance throughout my youth and twenties. Walking also became one of the ways I explore new postures of alignment.
Gilad (Zloto) Ben Ari (born 1982, Jerusalem)
In my twenties, I danced for Batsheva ensemble in Tel Aviv, then i moved to Europe to become a maker, studying in PARTS in Brussels and getting an MA in Amsterdam from Das choreography.
I was making conceptual work dealing with the (in)visibility of structures of oppression, from the position of the one these structures are meant to serve.
In 2015, I walked 4000km from the South of Turkiye to Amsterdam. It created a change in where I felt transformation could happen. My perception of the body changed from a material I could impose on, for the sake of expression of ideas, to the natural environment that I was given responsibility for.
I wrote an MA thesis in Heidelberg on the operation of attention according to Simon Weil (1909-1943).
I learned shiatsu massage,e and it became my main focus in learning how to listen to other bodies.
